Building scenes from reusable 3D parts so you can block, rearrange, and iterate on environments quickly for paint-over and design work.

What it is

Scene assembly means treating environments like LEGO: you collect or build modular pieces — walls, doors, stairs, pipes, rocks, furniture, foliage chunks — and snap them together into a usable layout. You're not sculpting one perfect building; you're arranging interchangeable parts into many possible scenes.

You pull assets from your own library, studio libraries, kitbash packs, marketplace models, or your own quick blockouts. You drop them into the scene, align, scale, and rotate them, and build up a believable space: streets from repeating building fronts, corridors from wall and ceiling modules, interiors furnished from a prop kit. You keep things grid-aligned when pieces need to tile cleanly, and cheat and overlap where the camera won't see.

You also use this to explore options: duplicate the whole setup, swap a few modules, and you have a different composition or mood. You might rough in a blockout, test cameras and lighting, then refine by replacing crude blocks with more specific pieces. The goal is a clean, lit scene that supports your 2D work — a direct paint-over, a base for photobash, or reference for multiple keyframes in the same location.

Why it matters

Without scene assembly, every new shot starts from scratch: you remodel props you already made, environments change shape between angles, and camera work has no grounded sense of space. Once you build scenes modularly, you can explore many compositions in one location, keep designs consistent across images, and spend your energy on lighting, storytelling, and paint instead of rebuilding walls and furniture one by one.
