What it is

Masonry means anything built from stone, brick, or concrete: walls, curbs, pavements, pillars, ruins. It appears as heavy, rigid forms made of many blocks or poured slabs, with joints, seams, and chips breaking the surfaces. You're suggesting both the big structure (how it's stacked or poured) and the small surface story (pits, cracks, stains).

Stone tends to have irregular shapes and slightly broken silhouettes, with subtle color variations and veins. Light hits broad planes but is interrupted by chips, dents, and rough, granular texture. Edges rarely stay sharp for long; they step, crumble, or round off. Your rendering shows this with controlled edge variation and texture that follows the planes instead of random noise.

Brickwork is a repeating grid: rows of bricks with visible mortar lines. Each brick is a small box with its own light, shadow, and edge wear, but you simplify so the wall still reads as one mass. Color variation is controlled: related reds, browns, or greys, plus cooler mortar. Perspective and pattern spacing sell the structure more than high detail in every brick.

Concrete tends to be flatter and more uniform, but with casting seams, small air holes, and stains where water has run down. It often has strong planar breaks (slabs, beams, steps) and a slightly chalky or sandy feel. You show this through broad value shapes first, then subtle texture passes: speckling, fine pitting, faint streaks that respect gravity and surface direction.

Why it matters

Without solid masonry rendering, walls and ground planes collapse into flat, plastic-looking panels or noisy texture that doesn't feel heavy. Stone can read like soft clay, brick like cardboard painted red, and concrete like a bland grey fill with no sense of scale or load-bearing strength. Control edges, planes, and wear patterns specific to each material, and your environments gain believable weight: buildings feel like they could stand, ruins look convincingly aged, and characters feel grounded on surfaces that react to light and weather consistently.
