What it is
This skill turns round objects — wheels, cups, columns, tree trunks, bottles — into clear, believable solids in perspective. You draw circles as ellipses, stack them into cylinders, taper them into cones, and keep them locked into the scene's perspective.
You place ellipses with a clear minor axis — the short direction of the ellipse, running straight at or away from you. That axis always sits at 90° to the edges representing the cylinder's length. As a form turns in space, the ellipse degree — how open or flattened it is — changes: it opens up as the circle's face turns toward you, and flattens as it turns edge-on.
This shows up in everything from a mug on a table to a mech's joints. You wrap belts or stripes around a cylinder, place buttons on a curved surface, or cut holes through a cone, and the smaller shapes follow the same curvature and axis. Your rounded forms feel solid enough to slice, rotate, or attach things to without guessing.
Why it matters
Without this, round things go rubbery or skewed: tabletops tilt because their ellipses don't match the perspective, wheels look like wobbly ovals, and limbs or columns feel twisted or flat. Inconsistent ellipse degree bends objects in the wrong places, and a drifting minor axis makes labels, seams, or patterns fail to hug the surface. Master these and you can build everyday objects with confidence instead of avoiding anything round.
