Taking a 3D-assisted piece to a finished painting, so it stops looking like a render with paint on top.

What it is

You're not delivering a beauty render with a few brush strokes on top — you're delivering a painting that used 3D as scaffolding. By the end, edges, shapes, values, and colors all feel chosen by you, not the renderer. No one should be able to point at a region and say, "this part is still the raw render."

You resolve the whole frame under one visual logic — deciding how sharp or soft edges should be, how much texture lives in each area, and how much contrast sits at the focal point versus the background — then paint until every part follows that plan. Any leftover 3D artifacts (perfect gradients, CG lens blur, repeated assets, procedural noise) get repainted or pushed to match your mark-making.

You also reconcile lighting and atmosphere into one statement: if the 3D pass gave different areas slightly different light behavior, repaint values, bounce light, fog, and reflections until they agree. Adjust materials so metals, fabrics, skin, foliage, and sky share the same color space, perspective, and lighting story.

Why it matters

Without this, hybrid images read as a collage: crisp 3D architecture next to a painterly sky, photo-textured props next to flat characters, finished areas next to blocked-out ones. The eye snags on mismatched detail levels, camera artifacts, and surfaces that behave differently from area to area — breaking immersion and making art directors doubt you can finish a piece on your own. Done right, the 3D helps you without upstaging you: the result reads as one intentional picture that sits next to fully painted work without standing out as "the 3D one."
